Celestial events like eclipses, the lining up of planets, and the like are also often taken into account.
Of course, a lot of people point out that one can no longer depend on horoscopes, seeing as some planets aren't really even planets anymore, and because the sky has moved and changed since the astrological system was first devised. Using horoscopes to predict how your day will turn out is, fair enough, no longer feasible. However, as a template for advice, it has the potential to do wonderfully.
